   Individual Work and Assessement

Stacking Blocks

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."

Albert Einstein

There are occasions, following an initial consultation, where there may be the need for further observation or assessment.

Individual assessment work is often required when it is not clear why there are needs or where there are unanswered questions about certain areas of a young person's development. Individual assessment may investigate the following;

• The young person's views

• Attitude towards self and others

• Motivation and aspirations

• Key strengths

• Emotional needs

• Self-Esteem

• Social and Friendship skills

• Key attachments and relationships

• Learning needs

• Academic ability and basic learning skills (including how a young person approaches learning tasks)

I use a range of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools, dependent on the needs of the individual young person. Individual work and assessment should always be a positive and fun experience for any young person and therefore it is essential it is carried out in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Rapport building prior to starting any assessment work is a key priority in all individual work I carry out.
