Staff Supervision & Support

For teachers, as for students, the most effective evaluation comes from someone who sits beside us and helps us grow."

Carol Ann Tomlinson, Educational Leadership 2012.

I am a fundamental believer that supporting staff with their needs and maintaining their well-being is fundamental to ensuring that good quality teaching, learning and development is occurring in classrooms and schools. Happy and well looked after staff are much more likely to teach to the best of their ability and support their pupils if they are having their own needs met.

The level of need with the average classroom is also becoming increasingly complex and therefore there are times when a member of staff (teacher, teaching assistant, or a member of senior management) may require some time to discuss the issues and receive support.

Support for staff can occur in a number of ways;

  • Setting up peer supervision sessions that run independently in schools

  • Group supervision/support (groups of teaching staff, teaching assistants, pastoral or SEN teams)

  • Individual supervision/support

  • One off sessions of support and supervision about supporting specific young people or needs

  • Staff training on stress and well-being

  • School audits on stress and well-being
